Passports

ALL DOCUMENTS ARE FOR FILM PROP USE ONLY – NOT FOR PUBLIC USE.

[Sometimes a scene may include an actor holding a passport ... Perhaps only the cover is seen, but often also the identity page with the character’s name, details and ID photo. This is where our custom-made “movie passports” come in.]

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • Artwork to be supplied and cleared for film use. This includes passport front covers, inner pages and all details (i.e. name, photograph, etc.)
  • Front cover artwork to be supplied in B/W vector format for foiling blocks to be manufactured.
  • Inner page artwork to be set up with 3-5 mm bleed.

PROCESSES INVOLVED:

  • The passport covers are closely matched to an original reference, usually quality faux leather and sometimes archival book cloth, and then the front cover design is hot stamped with gold foil.
  • The pages are collated and printed both sides so they’ll be in the correct order when bound.
  • For “biometric” passports the photo/data page is usually reinforced (although without a microchip, of course!) and a clear adhesive film pasted over the page.
  • The pages are folded and encased with the inner cover print, then saddle-stitched by hand with a blend of suitably coloured waxed threads, forming a standard 32-page booklet.
  • The foiled cover is thickened slightly with lightweight card before gluing the stitched booklet into position (carefully centered, and right side up!)
  • After spending time drying in the press, the closed passport is trimmed to size (usually 88 mm wide x 125 mm high).
  • Lastly, the corners are rounded.
